Section Four explains how IRA and 401(k) accounts can be self-directed. It identifies permitted and prohibited self-directed retirement account investments. It also addresses the issues of prohibited transactions, disqualified persons, and self-dealing relationships. Section Five introduces Third Party Administrators and Custodian and the role each plays in a self-directed retirement account. Kenneth T. Holman is founder and president of the National Association of Real Estate Advisors (NAREA). He is also owner of Overland Group Inc., a real estate organization that deals with all aspects of residential and commercial real estate through its independently-owned and operated companies. He received a B.S. degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah. He holds the following designations: CCIM, CPM, CCA, REIA, CRS and CDEI.
